Description

For anyone interested in event discovery, planning, and participation, Magic: The Gathering Companion provides a portable app with a clearly defined purpose. It is aimed primarily at people organizing or attending activities and gatherings. Users may start with one simple action and come back to the remaining sections another time. The offered store description provides enough detail to discuss the listed day-to-day use without inventing extra tools or screens. The description highlights progress, history, or statistics rather than limiting the day-to-day use to a single session. A practical first step is to try the central activity ahead of changing notifications, accounts, or optional preferences. Someone considering Magic: The Gathering Companion should pay attention to whether event discovery, planning, and participation stays simple once the novelty wears off. A few minutes with the primary activity should tell most people more than a long tour through every offered menu.

Key Features

What stands out first is the way this mobile tool keeps its primary activity close at hand instead of burying it behind a long setup. In this case, the significant question is how well this mobile tool supports event discovery, planning, and participation without making routine steps feel repetitive. People with a specific must-have capability should check the current listing, but casual users are able to learn a great deal simply by trying the core workflow.
  • A layout that lets new users explore one section at a time.
  • Relevant preferences may be offered for display, sound, notifications, privacy, accounts, or saved activity, depending on the edition.
  • A focused starting point for event discovery, planning, and participation.
  • Someone using this mobile tool can open this mobile tool for a single task and return later without committing to a lengthy setup.
  • Search is mentioned as a way to reach specific content without browsing every section manually.

Pros & Cons

Magic: The Gathering Companion makes the best case for itself when event discovery, planning, and participation is already part of the user’s day rather than a one-time curiosity. A quick trial usually reveals whether the interface feels natural, whether advertising gets in the way, and whether the practical parts sit behind a payment or sign-in.
  • Pros: A clearly defined activity makes this mobile tool easier to evaluate ahead of spending much time on setup.
  • Pros: New users are able to open with with a basic action and discover additional controls over time.
  • Pros: Store information can help users compare the current release with older versions ahead of installing.
  • Pros: A phone or tablet can keep the primary activity within reach during travel, breaks, or everyday routines.
  • Cons: Performance can vary with storage, memory, operating-system edition, and network quality.
  • Cons: The complete capability set may not be offered offline or without additional account and purchase requirements.
  • Cons: Users returning after a long break may need to learn a revised layout.

Functions

A typical session starts with a goal, moves through the relevant screen, and ends when the result has been checked or saved. The primary controls are expected to support event discovery, planning, and participation, while supporting screens handle preferences and account details. Preferences can wait until the basic workflow feels familiar; changing everything on the first visit rarely improves the day-to-day use.
  • Examine the offered choices and select the option that relates to event discovery, planning, and participation.
  • Locate the primary section ahead of exploring menus that are not needed for the current session.
  • Use the tracking screen to compare recent entries and check that dates or units match your expectations.
  • Observe what changes after the first action so the workflow remains easy to understand.
  • Enter a specific term in the search field, check the results, and narrow the wording if too many items appear.

How to Use

Use the verified Google Play listing provided for the Android edition. This setup sequence avoids naming buttons or functions that have not been confirmed. Operating-system updates can change setup screens, making the visible labels the safest guide.
  • Step 1: Launch the recorded Google Play listing for Magic: The Gathering Companion on the Android phone where it will be installed.
  • Step 2: Make sure that this mobile tool name and icon match Magic: The Gathering Companion. Because the developer is not recorded in the current data, do not guess it; use the listing itself to verify who publishes this mobile tool. Also read the operating-system requirement and make sure the phone is supported.
  • Step 3: Make sure the visible product text, latest changes, charges, and privacy notes. A capability is not established merely because the listing is silent.
  • Step 4: Tap the store’s Install or Get control and wait until the verified store finishes downloading and installing Magic: The Gathering Companion.
  • Step 5: Launch Magic: The Gathering Companion from the phone’s app list or home screen. Study the opening screen ahead of signing up, adding personal details, or changing controls.
  • Step 6: Permission choices can wait; approve only the access required for the task being performed.
  • Step 7: Begin with one capability described in the store listing and follow the labels presented inside this mobile tool. Complete a small test ahead of using significant files, payments, or private data.

The app works great for both participating at an FNM draft event at a local game store as well as for hosting a draft at home. A Wizards account is not required for hosting a draft at home but I recommend to register for the free account to unlock more features in the app like life tracking and detailed and detailed statistics.

Works well enough, but 2-stars for notification ads on your phone that you can't turn off in the app. Extremely annoying. Specifically notifications for inbox messages which are usually just marketing stuff.

16 Apr 2026: The app is much improved since approx. December 2025, very nice to see the new standard layout, useful features, and much better responsiveness of the app. Some issues with unexpected logouts remain, e.g. within a few days of logging in. The new Saved Stores and Saved Events features are nice to see, but currently there is no ability to filter the upcoming events list by Saved Stores, which would be very useful.

NEW BUG: Creating a game with life tracker sets life as 0 for all players. This happens sometimes when you set life to 40 or 50.
